Swans

During the millennium this sculpture of Swans was commissioned by Laing Homes when they converted the Old General Hospital into apartments.   However there is an interesting addition to this story many years prior when Walenty was still quite young, he ended up in the Old General Hospital having had an accidental shooting accident.  The shot shattered his femur and to this day he still carries some lead in there.

During this sojourn in hospital he started producing a number of paper bird sculptures to entertain the nurses; in return the nurses worried that he might die from lead poisoning, spoilt him a little and gave him lots of favours even to pushing his bed outside so he could sunbathe.  The old Walenty charm again!
